Home is not simply a location, but an interaction. I question what it means to be a homesteader today as society continues on this regression back to the land, to the natural, to the raw. Knitting is an action of strength, confidence and intimacy. I use the vernacular of the knit stitch to reference tradition, but also as a contemporary subversion of traditional craft. I knit pieces for the body to enhance this innate intimate connection to an ever-changing landscape of home, both spiritual and physical. The knit stitch is nostalgic, while the knitted garment breaks from utility into a space of contemporary art. This collection is a wearable allegory of my first home, the Maine coast.
